Warmer temperatures, rain on the way

• Bookmarks: 5

— Warmer temperatures are on their way to the Tri-State this week.

The trend started modestly Monday — when the mercury reached 38 degrees. But temperatures are expected to reach the 50s by Wednesday in Evansville and could touch 60 degrees on Friday and Saturday, according to the current National Weather Service Forecast.

The warm front will also bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms by Wednesday night — a possibility that is expected to remain through the weekend, according to the weather service predictions.

According to the forecast, the best chance for precipitation appears to be Thursday, with the National Weather Service putting the current chance of rain at 70 percent for that day.

Officially, the temperature failed to reach the 40-degree mark at any time in Evansville during the first six days of the year, according to weather service. The highest temperature recorded at the Evansville Regional Airport, according to weather service statistics was 39 degrees on Saturday.

So far the temperature has dropped into at least the low 20s every night, with three of the six days recording low temperatures in the teens. That trend that is also expected to come to a halt once the warm front makes its way through. Tuesday’s low is expected to drop into the 30s but remain above the freezing mark.
