(Reuters) – Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder J.D. Martinez tied a Major League record with four home runs on Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Martinez hit home runs in the fourth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings to power the D-Backs to a 13-0 victory against baseball&rsquo-s best team.
The 30-year-old, who went 4-for-5 and had six RBI, is the 18th player to hit four home runs in a single game in the majors.
&rdquo-It&rsquo-s kind of one of those things where you&rsquo-re laughing about it,&ldquo- Martinez told reporters. &rdquo-Shocked, no. But it&rsquo-s one of those things.
&ldquo-When you&rsquo-re seeing the ball well and you hit the ball, if you ask any hitter here, you&rsquo-re expecting to hit the ball hard every time.&rdquo-
Martinez, acquired by Arizona from the Detroit Tigers in July, now has 34 homers this season, 18 of which have been with the Diamondbacks.
